If there were any doubt what is most important to Hamelin, this moment removes it. Here he fends off a demon attack with his arm while he scrambles for the wall, reaching for Flute. If I'm remembering correctly, this is one of his last moments of relative normalcy; it's definitely one of his more noble moments!
